Heart attack symptoms
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one cause of death for women. Each year, heart disease kills more women than all types of cancer combined. It’s important to know the unique risk factors women have for developing heart disease. These risk factors include menopause, ovarian cysts, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Women also experience different heart attack symptoms from men. Often, women do not experience the chest or arm pain that many people associate with heart attacks.
Signs and symptoms of a heart attack vary from person to person, but the following symptoms are the most common indicators of cardiac arrest:
- Feeling clammy or sweaty
- Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
- Nausea
- Nausea or vomiting
- Shortness of breath
- Tightness or aching in the chest, arms, neck, jaw, back or shoulders
If you are experiencing these symptoms, call 911 immediately.
